We have avoided a cold and nasty winter SO FAR. I feel like we deserved the break since the last two winters have provided record snow falls for our area. I know we still have a few months before spring time, but even with the mild winter, I am still more than ready to see some green! I am ready to say goodbye to the brown pictures, and ready to see more than a glimpse of green underneath the dead leaves. My moods definitely change with the seasons, and I am ready to get out of my winter funk to say hello to warm sunshine and colorful spring blooms which will bring a magical cheer to this picture taking mama!

My Christmas List

First, let me explain that I am not a shopper! I don't really enjoy it, and especially dislike MALLS. They are too commercialized AND USUALLY over crowded. The hubs and I try to make at least one trip to Dallas per year during which I will go into one of the malls to shop, but more than likely you won't find me in one locally. I would much rather stroll through unique, quaint little boutiques, visit my favorite antique stores, or rummage through junk stores, but actually online shopping has been my best friend over the past few years! I absolutely love being able to click a button, and have something shipped to my doorstep.

My husband started making me provide him with a Christmas list last year - a list that had options for him to buy for me. Apparently, I wasn't very fun to shop for, and he didn't like that he couldn't surprise me with a few things Christmas morning. He definitely enjoys surprising me! It is so hard for me to construct a list of things that I want since I don't go shopping often, but I thought it would be fun to share a few of my "wants" this year.

I don't typically wear a lot of jewelry. My husband surprised me a few years ago on Christmas morning with diamond earrings. I wear them 99.9% of the time. He also surprised me one year with a diamond "O" necklace which I usually wear as well along with my wedding rings of course. Those are my the three main staples of my everyday accessorizing. I thought I needed one more staple, so I thought a sweet hand stamped silver bangle with my kid's names on it would be great! I thought it would be sweet to receive this from the kid's this year. They like buying me jewelry. I have several bracelets that GTO has picked out for me.

I actually had to provide a list to my mom this year as well - not something we typically do. TWO lists were SO VERY hard to come up with, but I have been wanting new Christmas stockings so these went on my "mom list".

I could always use some new work clothes. I work for a surgical sales company and refuse to wear scrubs, but most of the time I look a little sloppy in jeans and a top. I like to stay comfy, but know I need to dress better. My favorite store is Ann Taylor Loft. There is one nearby our house in an "easy to get to" shopping center, so I can run in and shop quickly which is my kind of shopping!

I CANNOT stand being cold, and in the winter, it seems that I am always freezing. The problem: I dislike coats! Most days I refuse to wear one, but I thought a new pull over jacket would be nice. I will often throw on one of my husband's North Face pull overs. They really do keep you warm.

I could use a new pair of comfy boots. I can't decide between a new pair of UGGs, OR....

A pair of Minnetonkas.

I definitely need a new pair of tennis shoes.

What would Christmas be like without a few new things to support my photography fun? I have a couple of old vintage cameras that I absolutely love. One was my great grandmother's camera. I would love to add to the collection.

The winter months are here, and I know I will be forced to move my sessions indoors. I get so bored with backdrops. I would love to receive a couple of new ones.

Stocking Stuffers: I love Lens Critters! You can find all different types of animals and insects on Etsy. The kids that I photograph will love these!

I would also love to find a new camera strap in my stocking this year.

I went ahead and added this to the Christmas list that I sent to my husband as a funny joke. We have been looking at cars for the past 6 months or so. Both of our vehicles are over 7 years old and have over 100k miles.

Yesterday, my husband picked me up for lunch and surprised me with an early Christmas present! I guess the jokes on me! MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ME!

Elf on the Shelf Adventures ~ideas~ WEEK ONE

This is the 4th year that our Elf has visited our house. The kids absolutely love Elf on the Shelf. This year, our Elf, Prince Diddo, has shared his creative side with us. I believe that he has spent his "down time' at the North Pole on the Pinterest website. He has so many fun and exciting things to share with us this year. I am going to try to remember to do a weekly "Elf Adventure" post. Let the fun begin!

Day One: Prince Diddo decided to make a grand entrance into our home this year. He decided to zip line through our second story window down into our living room. When the kids came down the stairs, they screamed with delight.

Day Two: When you gotta go, you gotta go! Who knew Elves peed green???
Day Three: Prince Diddo must have needed a midnight snack. He wiped out a box of Lucky Charms!

Welcome Baby Mackenzie - Oklahoma City Maternity~Newborn Photography

Baby Mackenzie finally made her debut.

I think she spent so much time sleeping peacefully in her Mommy's tummy that she decided once she was out that she would just stay awake....after all she might miss something exciting in my studio!
She has definitely broken the record for the newborn that has stayed awake the longest during a newborn session. :) She was so cute just staring at my lens...I think she knew what she was doing.
Nope, still not asleep....I actually just caught her during a blink. :)
These next pictures were from ROUND 2 of trying to get her to sleep. She finally did snooze for us, but not very soundly. I must say that it doesn't really matter if she sleeps or not, because she is absolutely gorgeous!

A few weeks ago, my mom came to visit, and I put her to work. She whipped up a few blankets and pennants for me to use. I LOVE THIS! Isn't this the cutest little set-up?

Mackenzie even flashed a little grin.

I have been trying to remember to capture the little newborn "details" as well. I seem to get caught up in a session and forget about the cute little hair lines, and tiny little toes.

I am trying to wrap up all of my family photo sessions. It's funny how I told myself I was going to slow down this fall. I actually skimmed down my client base and turned down many sessions, so that I could be available for close friends/family, BUT I was busier than EVER. Once again, I gathered up some cute shirts, jackets, and hats from my kid's closets and headed up to my favorite little Pre-K class for this year's photo session. This is the third year that I have done this project and I love it more and more each year. Four and five year olds are probably the most fun and one of the easiest ages to shoot. Their pictures are always full of personality. The parents are always so happy to receive their picture gifts from their adorable children.

I was SO FORTUNATE to be able to build my photography portfolio so quickly and have so many regular clients from the start! I am truly blessed and thankful! Sadly, I haven't been able to take new clients this year. It has been difficult since I love meeting new people, but my schedule was constantly booked, and I was having a hard time working my long term clients into my schedule when they needed to book a session. It was a decision that I stuck firmly to until recently. Due to not having many sessions available during the week, I have been a little incognito regarding my photography gig. The majority of my neighbors who I see on a weekly basis don't even know that I lead a double life. :) Someone in my neighborhood recently received a referral to me from one of my long term clients and I just couldn't say no. So I guess the cats out of the bag, because that first neighbor session has lead me to this second neighbor session. Honestly, I couldn't be happier because I have met two of the sweetest girls who have two darling little boys. Great neighbors are the best!

This one???....well, I am a little SMITTEN to say the least! Do you blame me? And because I am so smitten, today will be PHOTO OVERLOAD. I just couldn't resist! Enjoy!

I get so attached to my clients especially ones who have been in front of my camera so many times...the ones who have stood by me while my photography skills have grown, and the ones who have let me capture so many moments and milestones with their precious children. When I found out one of my favorite little girls is moving away, my heart began to ache. OH HOW I WILL MISS THIS BEAUTIFUL FACE, but I won't say goodbye...I will say see you later, because I WILL BE COUNTING on visits at least once a year.

I still remember the first time I photographed this sweet face almost three years ago. It seems just like yesterday.

I remember those tiny little feet constantly kicking in the breeze.

I remember all that dark gorgeous hair at three months old, and those gorgeous eyes that gazed perfectly into my lens.
I remember the wind blowing your long long locks of hair at your 6 month session, and that adorable gummy grin!

I remember capturing your new sitting skills, and remember those eyes that changed to a deep brown.

I remember capturing your Mother's deep love for you.

I remember capturing those first two teeth.

I remember you trying to escape my props.

I remember you toddling beside the wagon.

I remember how easy it was to capture your constant smiles.

I remember singing Happy Birthday to you.

I remember laughing hysterically, because you were scared of a cupcake.

I remember capturing you at T-W-O. You were so grown up!

I remember that shy toddler.

I remember how simple you made my job.

Pay it Forward

They say a picture speaks a thousand words and I truly believe it. An image can tell a story, freeze an important moment in time, and evoke a deep emotion, but what I find most important is that a picture has the ability to brighten someones day and put a huge smile on a proud mama's face. For me, it is what makes photography so rewarding. I thank God that He gave me this passion a few years ago, and I feel that it is very important for me to "to pay it forward" even if it is in the simplest of ways. Each season I try to give back whether it is photographing a child of a young single mom, contributing a session to a charitable event, or volunteering my photography skills for my FAVORITE pre-k teacher's class.

This season, I met a wonderful mom who leads a very busy life to say the least. She has three absolutely gorgeous girls and does a great job at updating her blog and posting updates on her Facebook account. Being a very busy mom myself, I know how hard it is to try to keep up with blogging and updating Facebook with current pictures, and for this particular mom, I knew a way I could help. Once a month, I will spend my lunch hour photographing these beautiful little ladies in their home. It will be "a day in the life of the Coy triplets". Yesterday was our first candid session, and I got to play with three of the cutest little pumpkins!

I am hoping for the day to come when I can tell these little cuties apart. Right now, I can't even tell you which two are identical, but I know it doesn't really matter. I just snap away with each one and hope that I can tell them apart when editing their pictures. It makes it easier when they aren't all dressed alike, but who could resist these darling Halloween outfits!

Fall Break 2011

For those of you waiting on this year's Halloween costume reveal, I will post the kid's costume pictures Wednesday or Thursday. I didn't know the suspense was killing so many people. HA! I have had several e-mails from people waiting patiently for the Halloween pictures. Sorry, it has been a little chaotic around here, but the costumes are finally complete and the pictures have been taken.

Last weekend was fall break for the kids. We headed to the lake house for a not-so-fun planned weekend. We had to winterize the boat and pull the water trampoline out of the muddy hole (LITERALLY) to clean it up to store away for the winter. The kids were great helpers, so we broke away from the work and visited our favorite little zoo.

We love this little zoo, and one of the kid's favorite things to do is to go to the giraffe feeding.

The zoo also has a small petting zoo which the kids love!

If you are ever in North Texas, stop by the Frank Buck Zoo. Your kids will love it! Giraffe feeding is every morning at 10:30.

I don't typically shoot in urban settings. I tend to thrive off of sunlight and natural settings when it comes to my photography sessions. I love that nature surrounds me with an ever changing backdrop throughout the year, but sometimes I feel like I need to push myself out of my comfort zone and challenge myself away from my typical surroundings, so I did just that. A few weeks ago, one of my fellow photography friends and I loaded up our kids and traveled downtown to try out a few urban shots, and this is the result....

I absolutely love that all my regular clients are returning with baby #2 on the way. I loved this couple's first round of maternity pictures so I knew I had a tough job ahead trying to top that session. You can view Leah's first maternity session here. It was fun finding ways to incorporate sweet little Carter into this session. He is going to be a great big brother to baby sister, Mackenzie.

Baby John - Edmond, Oklahoma Newborn Photography Session

Meet baby John, one of many newborns that I will be shooting this fall/winter season. John was three weeks old in these photos, so I was a little worried about how well he would cooperate as I usually like to shoot newborns at less than two weeks old. John proved me wrong. He was such a trooper and darling as EVER! I love his beautiful, full lips!

I recently inherited an antique quilt from my Grandmother, and I have loved incorporating into my sessions.

He is gorgeous! I love this little face!

We were recently blessed with wonderful company at our house as our good friend's from Dallas finally made it North for a visit. Little Miss Ellie was born in February, and I was dying to meet her for the first time. It only took me about 2.2 seconds to get my camera out and start shooting those beautiful baby blues. She is absolutely gorgeous and I can't wait for their next visit. (hint hint Kandie!).

Sweet little Sophie recently turned ONE. We decided to forego the typical one year set up of tutus, birthday hats, and cake, to shoot an apple orchard scene instead. Sweet Sophie was perfect for the part, and I love how the images turned out. Happy Birthday sweet girl!

My Sweet Lily

We spent the majority of last week at the lake, because my brother and his family were in town visiting from FL. We don't see my brother's family often. It was absolutely killing me to know that I had a niece that I had never met. Miss Lily turned one in July, and I. COULD. NOT. WAIT. to love on her. I tried to soak in every minute I could, and what better way to do that than with my camera aimed at her face all day long. :) I learned that Liliana is a serious soul and just as sweet as can be. I don't think I heard her fuss over anything the entire time we were there except when I tried to sit her in my photography chairs, baskets, buckets. LOL! She wanted ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my photography props, so the pictures define her sweet self! She is absolutely precious, and I already miss those sweet cheeks!

Wakeboarding

GTO suddenly took interest in wakeboarding, so a couple of weeks ago, we let him try out his Daddy's board. He was able to get up and ride for a while, so when we were in Dallas last week, we purchased a child size board for him. He could not wait to get back to the lake house to try it out.

GiGi can't stand for someone to do something that she can't, so she strapped on the board, hopped in the water and up she went. I love that she is not scared to try new things. I also love that both of the kids love water sports just as much as their parents.

What have we been up to? Summer 2011

The summer is nearly half way over, and so far I think we have accomplished our goal of family fun in the sun. Since we had a very chaotic school year with two kids in multiple activities and lots of school projects, I told myself that we would take the summer off and try to make the most of our summer days. That means setting my camera aside and jumping into summer activities full force.

We have been spending numerous evenings at the pool...it seems the water is the best place to escape the 100+ degree weather.

And of course, we have been swimming in our favorite mud hole.

GTO learned to wakeboard a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, I will get some pictures in the coming weeks.
Some days I miss my Cannon, but I can usually talk GiGi into at least three pictures and hope that one turns out.

Here's to another FIVE weeks of a fabulous summer!

I don't usually fall in love with morning light, but this particular morning was absolutely gorgeous. This first image has turned out to be one of my favorites. I love the backlight and the perfectly cast shadows. This little guy is too precious for words! I will try to share more from his session later in the week!

I asked this beautiful girl what she wants to be when she grows up. Her reply to me, "A SUPERMODEL!" I say, "WHY WAIT!" She is a natural in front of the camera, and her eyes have the brightest sparkle. I wish I could photograph her every week!

Morning Cuties

I look forward to seeing these two cuties EVERY SINGLE morning. This is one of GiGi's besties, and her adorable little brother who I adore! I don't know what I will do when school starts in the fall and I don't see these two precious smiles every day. We will have to make time for more play dates and more picture sessions, right?

Sometimes I wish I knew how to sew, but that thought is always followed up by knowing that I don't have the patience to sew more than a straight line. It doesn't change the fact that I still love to dress GiGi in fun and unique clothes. This obsession of mine started 5 years ago when I discovered the great world of "custom boutique" on ebay. I was never good at winning ebay auctions and didn't have the time to spend countless hours on ebay while I was trying to learn about photography, so I sought to find someone to sew for me and was welcomed by a wonderful woman named Trudy. We spent days talking over e-mail, and she has since turned my over-the-top and creative ideas into amazing outfits for the past 5 years. It is getting more difficult to find cute clothes for GiGi now that she is out of the toddler sizes, but I know I can always count on Trudy to make ADORABLE creations.
